All You Need to Know About a “Men’s Pedicure”

by admin

When most men hear the word “pedicure,” they automatically recoil exclaiming that such a thing is ridiculous for a “real men,” and are only done by women. However, as more and more men are joining the pedicure-bandwagon, they are finding that it is not only a very pleasurable experience, but a way to head off any potential foot problems that may erupt down the road. Besides, there are some definitive differences between a women’s pedicure and a men’s pedicure.

Men’s Pedicure

Some of the ways men’s pedicures differ from those done for women are as follows:

• Men’s pedicures focus on making sure the foot is healthy, soft, and absent any potential foot problems that may show up down the road. The goal is not to make a pretty foot, but a healthy foot that doesn’t smell unpleasant.

• All pedicures—men’s or women’s—begin with a long foot soak in warm water. This is designed to soften any hard or rough areas of the foot so they are easier to remove after. It also deeply cleans the foot, hopefully preventing any potential fungal issues. While women’s foot soaks may include flowery scents and flower petals, the soaking water will have no petals and will come with a more masculine scent.

• After the foot soak, comes a foot massage, which serves two purposes: further softening any rough spots and giving the recipient pleasure and relaxation. It also helps to improve foot circulation, improving the likelihood that an invading fungus will be stopped before it really begins.

• Next, the foot is treated for calluses, corns, hangnails, and any cuticle overgrowth. If there is also an issue with an ingrown toenail, this will be addressed as well. The toenails are also trimmed and shaped, and buffed lightly for a natural shine. Finally, the foot is deeply rubbed with a thick moisturizing cream to increase softness and comfort.

As you can see, the men’s pedicure is a long way from a frou-frou toenail painting extravaganza. It is a way to keep every part of your body in its best possible health. Waiting until you have a problem is waiting too long; keeping your feet well-pampered and treated is a way of both ensuring your health and treating yourself to an enjoyable soak and massage.
