1. Cyst. A bump on top of the foot sometimes is a result of a cyst. A cyst sometimes form on the outermost layer of your skin, the epidermis. For this type of cyst, treatment is not usually needed unless the lump on top of the foot is very large and has become infected.
2. Infection. An infection can be the result of many different things, including a blocked hair follicle. Those who are unsure of the cause of the infection should see a doctor if the swelling does not reduce or go down.
3. Fracture. Also known as a broken bone, fractures may be the culprit behind that bump on the foot. A recent injury or trauma to the foot may have caused the fracture.
4. Varicose Veins. As if varicose veins weren’t unsightly enough, now they have the potential to cause a bump on top of your foot! Varicose veins are swollen and appear just above the surface of the skin.
