-While the slower paced and less costly massage therapy classes are offered at Community college programs. These can be part-time or full-time studies.
-Makes sure you find out exactly what your qualification will be at the end of your studies, before parting with any money, as there are plenty of sharks out there who will take your money without giving you a genuine qualification.

Massage therapy classes will cost you much more than just your tuition. To study as a full time student, the loss of salary, travel expenses if the school is not in your area, plus your present living expenses. Then there are the extra’s you would need which could be a massage table, books and further learning materials.

All You Need to Know About a “Men’s Pedicure”

When most men hear the word “pedicure,” they automatically recoil exclaiming that such a thing is ridiculous for a “real men,” and are only done by women. However, as more and more men are joining the pedicure-bandwagon, they are finding that it is not only a very pleasurable experience, but a way to head off any potential foot problems that may erupt down the road. Besides, there are some definitive differences between a women’s pedicure and a men’s pedicure.

Men’s Pedicure

Some of the ways men’s pedicures differ from those done for women are as follows:

• Men’s pedicures focus on making sure the foot is healthy, soft, and absent any potential foot problems that may show up down the road. The goal is not to make a pretty foot, but a healthy foot that doesn’t smell unpleasant.

• All pedicures—men’s or women’s—begin with a long foot soak in warm water. This is designed to soften any hard or rough areas of the foot so they are easier to remove after. It also deeply cleans the foot, hopefully preventing any potential fungal issues. While women’s foot soaks may include flowery scents and flower petals, the soaking water will have no petals and will come with a more masculine scent.

• After the foot soak, comes a foot massage, which serves two purposes: further softening any rough spots and giving the recipient pleasure and relaxation. It also helps to improve foot circulation, improving the likelihood that an invading fungus will be stopped before it really begins.

• Next, the foot is treated for calluses, corns, hangnails, and any cuticle overgrowth. If there is also an issue with an ingrown toenail, this will be addressed as well. The toenails are also trimmed and shaped, and buffed lightly for a natural shine. Finally, the foot is deeply rubbed with a thick moisturizing cream to increase softness and comfort.

As you can see, the men’s pedicure is a long way from a frou-frou toenail painting extravaganza. It is a way to keep every part of your body in its best possible health. Waiting until you have a problem is waiting too long; keeping your feet well-pampered and treated is a way of both ensuring your health and treating yourself to an enjoyable soak and massage.

Wear High Heel Shoes With Minimal Foot Pain

By Danny Tong

What a day. You can’t wait to take your shoes off. Being fashionable can be painful, if you constantly wear high heel shoes. Beware of neuromas, bunions, “hammer toes”, heel and arch pain which can become debilitating as you decide which high heels to wear.

Good news ladies! You may continue to wear high heel shoes with minimal to no foot pain if you take care of your feet.

Your feet are engineering marvels. They are the foundation to your body. Problems with your feet can also affect your knees, hips and back. Each foot is made up of three sections: forefoot, mid-foot and hind-foot. The forefoot involves your toes. The mid-foot is the middle section of the foot, and the hind-foot involves the ankle and heel.

Each foot is supported by three arches. Foot arches are the body’s springs and shock absorbers. They propel your feet and absorb body weight and impact when you walk, run or jump. Daily wearing of high heel shoes restricts your feet and the associated articulations and deforms the transverse and medial longitudinal arches. The transverse arch runs across your the bottom of your toes, while medial longitudinal arch runs lengthwise along inside part of your foot.

High heel shoes change how your feet distribute body weight. Usually, there is an increased weight distribution to the second to fourth toes which collapses the transverse arch. Your body attempts to lift and pad the fallen transverse arch with calluses. Other scar tissues will also form underneath the ball of your toes. You’ll often experience pain at the bottom of the second to fourth toes after hours of wearing high heels.

These shoes can also increase the tension in the medial longitudinal arch and concentrate abnormal impact to the ankle and heel. Arch and heel pain can be debilitating after a full day of in high heels.

The narrow, toe box common to most high-heel shoes often deforms the forefoot and causes neuromas between the third and fourth toes, bunions and hallux valgus and hallux rigidus to the big toe.

There are sensible precautions that you can take which allow you to continue wearing high heels with minimal to no foot pain. Wear heels that are two inches or less. High heels disrupt gait and posture for the entire body. Shoes that are greater than two inches significantly influence lower extremity mechanics and gait.

Stretching the calf muscles will reduce some of the tension and tightness in the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia. Plantar fasciitis and calcaneal bursitis are common among runway models and ballroom dancers.

If you experience pain to your heel, arch or toe, get them treated before the problems become permanent. Conservative treatments should always be considered before any type of foot surgery. Conservative treatments are cost effective and less complicated.

A chiropractor who is knowledgeable in foot biomechanics and pathology can help you with your foot pain. Chiropractic adjustments restore ankle and toe articulations that are often restricted and hindered from wearing high heels. Mild form of hallux valgus and rigidux may be help with chiropractic adjustments. Deep muscle and soft tissue treatments such as trigger point therapy and Active Release Technique can relief heel, arch and toe pain associated to ankle and foot joint restrictions. Cold laser therapy not only reduces inflammation associated with neuromas, but it also relieves the burning pain.

The shape, size and arches of your feet are unique. Once your foot pain has resolved, custom orthotics for high heel shoes should be fitted for long term care. These customized, shoe inserts correct foot over-pronation and support the medial longitudinal arch. The high heel orthotics also have metatarsal pads that remove unwanted pressure to your second to fourth toes by lifting and supporting the transverse arch.

Why is the Star Such a Popular Foot Tattoo Choice?

In the world of tattooing, the popularity of the star as a foot choice is very significant. There seems to be little if any gender difference regarding choice of star foot tattoos: as many men as women ending up getting this symbol. One reason is that a star is a relatively easy design to do, lessening the chances that you will end up dissatisfied with your choice. Also, stars come in an enormous variety of sizes, allowing you to go as discrete or as bold as you choose. Finally, the choice of color of star foot tattoos is limited only by the wearer’s imagination. However, there is also deeper meaning to star tattoos, which are as follows.

Star Foot Tattoos

• The star is one of the most ancient symbols of religion, philosophy, and even of science. It taps into the metaphysical and reminds us that we are only one part of a much larger universe. Many claim the star has mystical powers that will protect and help the wearer of the star foot tattoo.

• Stars are part of our everyday existence; rarely does a night pass without seeing at least one star and wearing a symbol that is connected to this constancy will reassure the wearer that there is always stability to be found.

• The star is also a universal symbol, recognized in one form or another by almost every religious sect and belief system. Therefore, the star foot tattoo can mean demonstrating the wearer’s commitment to their particular path of faith, and they can choose to reveal its personal meaning to others or not.

• A variation on the simple star is the shooting star foot tattoo. Shooting stars are thought to symbolize both good luck and wishes coming true…a pretty good motivator for selecting this particular tattoo design.

Star foot tattoos come in a variety of sizes, colors, and meanings and the choice of each of these is up to the wearer. The advantage of having the star on your foot is that it can be hidden when it is necessary or left wide open for all to see, and its ultimate meaning is yours to hide or reveal.

High Heel Pain – Avoid Damage at All Costs

By Jenifer Caplan

Have you ever wondered why your feet are killing you at the end of a long day? If you glance down at your feet, you will probably see a really cute pair of high heels. If you are a high heel wearer, like many women are, you might want to consider the damage that you are doing to your feet as well as other parts of your body and ways you can lessen the problems that come with wearing high heels.

Feet will often times swell by the end of the day when wearing high heels. This is due to many factors including pressure, strain and blood flow problems surrounding the foot and ankle area. The only way to remedy this situation is to get out of the high heels that are causing the problem- at least temporarily.

By no means are we suggesting that you give up on wearing all those amazing heels in your shoe collection! It is a good idea, however, to give your feet a break at different times of the day. Think about it, your body requires food in order to keep going; this is why we have lunch in between breakfast and dinner while working our shift. Now, relate that same concept to your feet. Your feet need a break too!

During the day when you are wearing heels, they are under continuous pressure that is unnatural to their purpose and design. This is where alternatives such as rollable shoes come in. Rollable shoes allow you to give your feet a break by simply slipping into them when your feet hurt or scheduled times of the day. If you work behind a desk for most of the day, rollable shoes are a very easy and quick fix to your problems. The great thing about roll up shoes is the fact that they can be stored anywhere. Store them in your desk drawer, purse or any other place that is convenient to you.

By the same token, if you commute a lot during the day, you will be able to slip on your rollable shoes when walking to a location, sitting on a bus and many other situations. Roll up shoes can also be worn after work on your way home. Slipping into a pair of rollable shoes about three times a day can significantly reduce how much pain you are experiencing in your feet, ankle, knee and back.

If able, substitute your high heels for rollable shoes one or two times a week. You can also choose to wear other dress flats a couple of times a week instead too. No matter which option you choose, rollable shoes are readily available whenever you need them and especially come in handy in a pinch and those situations you find yourself in when you least expect it. Roll up shoes come in a variety of colors, styles and have a slip resistant bottom. There is no doubt that roll up shoes are the best convenient shoe on the market.

Jenifer Caplan is an owner of Footzyrolls and looks to provide women fashionable, yet comfortable solutions to the daily troubles they face with dress shoes and heels. Footzyrolls offers a large selection of rollable shoes that has been seen on Oprah as well as many other famous publications.

Spotting a Toe Infection

While there seem to be countless television ads regarding athlete’s foot, dry and rough feet, and devices for foot comfort, little if anything is ever mentioned regarding what to look for when you believe there is something wrong with your toenails—especially an infection. Following is a description of various types of fungal infections and what they may look like.

Symptoms of a Toe Nail Infection

Most toenail infections are fungal in nature, but different types of fungi cause different types of infection:
• Distal Subungual Onychomycosis or DSO. In this fungal infection, the toenail may turn yellow and begin pulling away from the nail base itself. It may seem brittle in appearance and have vertical lines running down the nail.
• White Superficial Onychomycosis or WSO. WSO turns the toenail white and somewhat crumbly, slowly disintegrating the toenail itself. It is less common than DSO. WSO is also the easiest of the toenail infections by simply scraping off the nail and applying an anti-viral ointment regularly to the infected site.
• Proximal Subungual Onychomycosis or PSO. Of all the toenail fungal infections, this is the least common It first appears as a white or yellow spot then progresses to plaque under the nail bed, lifting the nail off the toe, so debris and other matter is allowed under the toenail bed. Eventually, the toenail may be lost completely. The treatment for PSO is systemic drugs and not topical ointments.

Keep in mind that toenail fungi differ from toenail injuries. In injuries, the toenail may turn purple or black and remain so for months; eventually you will probably lose the nail completely, as the blood trapped underneath will slowly lift the nail off its bed. This is not a condition that needs to be treated by medication, just time.

Knowing whether you have a toe infection is the first step to curing it. As you see above, there are a variety of possible toe infections, and all are viral based; like all viruses, they can be difficult to treat and may take a bit of time to be entirely cured.
